From: Dave Reitze [reitze@phys.ufl.edu] Sent: Thursday, April 24, 2008 11:50 AM To: lsc-all@ligo.org Subject: Postdoctoral positions in GW Theory and Data Analysis available at Cardiff Dear LSC Colleagues, Sathyaprakash has asked me to forward to you this announcement of open postdoctoral positions at Cardiff - see below for more details and applications procedures. Best, Dave ----------------------------------- Postdoctoral positions in Gravitational Wave Theory and Data Analysis, Cardiff University, UK Cardiff's Gravitational Physics group is seeking applications from highly motivated and competitive candidates to fill one or more STFC- and EC-funded postdoctoral positions for a duration of two to four years. The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to take part in the exciting search for gravitational waves in data from the most sensitive interferometers built to date, using state-of-the-art computational infrastructure. There will also be an opportunity to work on astrophysical sources of gravitational waves and the development of search algorithms for their detection in current and future detectors. The School of Physics and Astronomy at Cardiff (http://www.astro.cf.ac.uk) is a growing institution with a host of experimental and theoretical research in Astrophysics, Cosmology, and Gravitation. The School has good infrastructure and excellent computing facilities. Cardiff itself is a very pleasant and comfortable town, with lots of out-door attractions and diverse cultural life. The research interests of the Gravitational Physics group include quantum processes in the early Universe, cosmic microwave and gravitational wave backgrounds, black hole horizons and quantum gravity, gravitational wave theory, development of algorithms and software to search for binary inspirals, transient bursts and stochastic backgrounds. The group has currently seven research associates (5 in gravitational wave data analysis and two in the study of primordial gravitational waves) and six PhD students. The positions are available from July 1, 2008, the exact starting date being negotiable. The closing date for applications is May 9, 2008. Starting salary will be in the range ?22,332-27,466 (due to increase by 5.5% by August 2008). For an application pack visit http://www.cf.ac.uk/jobs/academic/20080265-090508.html. Application forms can also be obtained by writing to the Personnel Section, 30-36 Newport Road, Cardiff CF24 0DE, by ringing (029) 2087 4017 or by emailing Vacancies@cardiff.ac.uk, quoting reference 2008/0265. Please send the completed application form and three letters of reference to the Personnel Section. Informal enquiries can be made by writing to Stephen Fairhurst (Stephen.Fairhurst@astro.cf.ac.uk) or Patrick Sutton (Patrick.Sutton@astro.cf.ac.uk). ************************************************************************ ************ David Reitze Professor of Physics PO Box 118440 University of Florida Gainesville, FL 32611-8440 Ph: 352-392-3582 fax: 352-392-3591 e-mail: reitze@phys.ufl.edu http://www.phys.ufl.edu/~reitze ************************************************************************ ************
